The Coach Pitch program is usually 7 and 8 year olds, and will follow the same general format as T-Ball. Your coach will expect participation 3 days per week. This could be games, practices, or a combination thereof.
What you should expect your child to learn from playing coach pitch:- Don't be afraid of the ball when batting or fielding.
- Understand field positions.
- Proper glove placement and catching of ground or fly balls.
- Proper batting stance, bat grip and swing.
- Proper throwing technique and improving accuracy of throws.
Playing the game - Coach Pitch rules:
- The batter may receive 7 pitches (no walks).
- The entire batting order will bat.
- All players will play in the field in an appropriate defensive position, including pitcher.
- Players may take appropriate base on hit ball (coaches judgement). No advance on overthorws.
- Infield hits = 1 base.
- Games will be 3-4 innings depending on time. Games should last approximately 60-90 minutes.
- Overhand pitch to boys - underhand pitch to girls.
- Batter hit by pitch goes to 1st base.
During the game please be supportive to the coach and volunteers, and encourage all players. Please ask the coach if they need help with anything. There should be plenty of helpers on the field to make sure the children understand the game.
